State May Start Using DUI Bracelets
Electronic ankle bracelets that are already in use in some parts of the country for tracking repeat drunk drivers could be seen in California.
Already more than 20 states are using secure remote alcohol monitors or SCRAMS. The half pound devices are able to detect alcohol in a person's perspiration. The results can be monitored daily by court representatives.
The ankle device checks hourly for traces of alcohol and stores the data, which is transmitted daily to a secure computer system.
