DUI Arrest In San Francisco Pile-Up Crash
POSTED: 12:00 pm PST January 10, 2007
SAN FRANCISCO - A Concord man was arrested Wednesday morning after authorities said he caused a six-vehicle pile-up in San Francisco by driving his minivan at a high rate of speed while intoxicated.
Johnny David Aguilar, 32, was booked into the San Francisco County jail after being treated for minor injuries, California Highway Patrol Officer Shawn Chase said.
The crash occurred on eastbound Interstate Highway 80 at the Fourth Street off-ramp just after 11 p.m. Tuesday. Aguilar was driving his 2002 Nissan Quest at 80-90 mph just as traffic was coming to a stop due to construction on the Bay Bridge, Chase said.
"He noticed traffic was rapidly slowing down and veered to the left, where he struck a vehicle in the No. 1 lane," Chase said. "He bounced off that vehicle, struck another vehicle, and caused a chain reaction."
Six vehicles were involved in the accident, including an ambulance that was transporting a patient. The patient did not suffer any injuries from the collision, Chase said.
Aguilar was slightly hurt in the crash.
"He wasn't wearing a seat belt and was thrown around in his minivan," Chase said.
A 30-year-old Point Richmond woman who was a passenger in a 2000 Dodge pickup also complained of pain.
Both she and Aguilar were transported to San Francisco General Hospital.
A Sig-alert was issued for the crash area at 11:16 p.m. and was lifted at 12:07 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
